One of the latest discoveries for DIY's that I have tried is the call magic plastic. It is not that it is a novelty, on the contrary, it actually became famous back in the 70s but, I had never seen it and since I discovered it, it caught my attention.
For who like me was unaware of its existence, I comment that the magic plastic is a plastic sheet that shrinks and hardens with heat and that is used to make a multitude of objects: key rings, earrings, brooches, beads, etc. Therefore, as you can see, it is a very versatile material that we can use in many crafts.
Materials
- Magic plastic (You will find it in craft stores or online).
- Scissors.
- Felt pens.
- Pencil.
- Ruler.
Process
The idea that we show you is to use the magic plastic to make pinwheel earrings. It is important that we bear in mind that the plastic will shrink quite a bit (on the packaging it put a 40% but honestly, I think it shrinks more) so whatever you do, make it pretty big.
The grinder in question is a very easy geometric drawing to make. The measurements that we have followed are: 4 cm in height, 2 cm in height of each blade and 0 cm in height in the center of the green triangle. As you will see, it is enough to use these measurements to obtain the grinder that will form the earrings.
Once drawn we will cut it out and then paint it. It is important to follow this order and not the opposite (as you can see in the photo I was a novice) because this plastic takes a long time to dry but once heated it remains dry. Therefore, this way we will avoid having to wait for the paint to dry.
Finally, We will bake at 175º (with the preheated oven) for a few minutes until it has shrunk and stretched. Afterwards, we will only have to hook the earring bases to them.
