Easy face masks to tie behind your head without a sewing machine with old t-shirts

We are facing a pandemic caused by the Coronavirus virus (COVID-19). There are not enough masks for the population, not even for health workers, so it is important to sharpen your ingenuity. If you do not have a sewing machine and if you do not have fabric or much idea of sewing, do not worry because you can have your masks if you have old shirts.

With a few simple steps you can have your mask and be able to go out to the streets protected, at least for the duration of this pandemic. There are more versions to make cloth masks, what matters is that they are double or triple cloth.

Materials you need

  • Child of sewing
  • Scissors
  • 1 old t-shirt
  • 1 DINA-4 paper
  • Cotton ropes
  • Sewing needles
  • Needles with marker
  • 1 ruler
  • 1 pencil

How to make the craft

First cut the pattern out of 4 × 25 cm DINA-15 paper. With this pattern cut out then put it on top of the shirt and cut out double or triple fabric, depending on the size of the shirt. Then put the cotton strings long enough at the top and bottom of the mask, as you see in the image.

Sew these parts so that it looks good. On the sides of the mask, in the middle, you can hem it to make it fit more closely on the face. Sew this part as is most comfortable for you, but a couple of stitches will suffice. Then put the mask on your face so that you can adjust the strings and cut the excess after tying it. Finally, sew the sides so that the mask is tightly closed.

Remember that these masks will not protect you from a sick person but they will help you protect yourself if you go shopping or throw away the garbage. Do not go out without being protected even if there is a shortage of masks at the moment. Even if you don't have specific fabrics, if you have an old shirt you can have your masks.
