The water sticks are a percussion element of very ancient origins. They come from the indigenous people of the South American Amazon, and were often used as sounds to create environments as well. This craft is very interesting to do with children, and spend a pleasant afternoon. If you do not know it, do it with them, they will be fascinated. I show you how to make a water stick with materials that you surely have at home.
Materials
- Chopsticks
- Noodles (or rice)
- Long paper roll carton
- Cardboard
- Zeal
- Scissors
Process
- Stick the toothpicks into the cardboard roll. Try to make them come out as straight as possible (more or less). You can use as a guide the drawing of the union that is made when manufacturing them, so that it comes out in a spiral way.
- Leaving a gap of a centimeter roughly between toothpicks, complete the entire cardboard.
- Draw two round profiles on the cardboard, using one of the holes in the cardboard tube as a guide. When cutting them, don't make it straight. Cut out with the scissors leaving small triangles.
- Fold lashes making a 90 degree angle. Same as in the picture.
- Use one of the cut cardboard as a cover to plug one of the holes in the tube of cardboard. To fix it, you can use a piece of tape.
- Introduce the noodles (or rice) through the hole that is left uncovered.
- Cover the hole with the cardboard, putting zeal on it. Just like you did with the other hole. And you will be ready!
Now, putting the water stick upright, and turning it over, you can hear the sound of the noodles falling through the sticks. It is a very peculiar sound, and if you have done it with a child, that is the idea, I assure you that they will be fascinated by the invention.
