Today, We suggest that you learn to make a very simple Japanese binding and that you can do all of them without having to use more than a cord and a classic double hole punch.

Material

  1. Double hole punch.
  2. A cord.
  3. Scissors.
  4. A needle of wool.
  5. And logically, the work we want to bind.

Process

To begin, we will select the hole that we are going to use and the measurements that we will use. On this occasion, as you can see, the device has a measurement bar that will help us select the measurements we want to use. If you have the same one (in fact it is the classic of a lifetime) and you want to make the same series of holes, these are the measures A6 and B4. If you do not have this bar to measure, you will have to make a template with the measurements that you like the most.

Once we have finished drilling all the work, we will start the binding.

As you can see in the image above, There is a series of numbers, these numbers indicate the order through which we must pass the thread. We will pass the thread starting with the cover and by number one, then we will go around the edge of the work and we will go through the cord again by number one. Then, we will go through four and then two we will do the same operation as in one, then we will go through three, where we will repeat the same operation as in one and two and we will go through two again and we will arrive at four where, now, we will pass the thread through the spine as in the others.

Next, we will follow the same scheme for the rest of the binding.

Once finished, we should have the two ends in the center, now, we will only have to make a loop to finish the binding.

Until the next DIY!
