It was the weekend, and the family came home to eat. With them, my nephews, who began to fiddle with the pile of colored straws that were left in the bag. Do you want us to make beautiful figures and leave them hanging from the ceiling? And with that enthusiasm when we said "okay!", Minutes later, we got down to work.
This is how we did it!
Materials
- Colored straws
- 3 branches
- Hilo
- Scissors
Process
- We cut the straw just where the flexible tube ends. Later we divide in two, the longest and stiffest part.
- We repeat the operation with 6 straws, until get 12 equal halves.
- Then We start by placing 3 pieces by the thread, and we join them passing the thread back through the beginning to have it well attached
- We continue doing the second half of the triangle, and then we finish after make the first figure.
- Now we must put it all together. Use the line of 4 straws as a reference, it will be easier. Finish by passing the thread through one of the ends, especially. Then it will serve to hang the figure.
- After making 4 equal figures (octahedra), cut 8 straws the same size as before and 4 longer. An exact measurement is not necessary, only approximate.
- Join them as before, but this time leaving the short ones on one side, and the long ones on the other to match us.
- Finally, join the 3 branches at the beginning with the same thread that we have used, so that it does not clash. Then, place the 4 small ones on each end, and the larger one in the center, and with more slack.
And this is the result! A colorful mobile that will give joy wherever you put it! You don't even need to drill into the ceiling or nail something into it, even if I have done it. Being very light, it can even be hooked with tape.
If the kids liked it, they want to repeat and you've run out of straws, nothing happens! Here you can see how to make a paper mobile for kids!
