Three-dimensional decoupage on tiles

Three-dimensional decoupage on tiles

The art of decoupage in recent years it has become established: it can be done on furniture, frames, boxes, even objects and accessories of all kinds. You may have heard of decoupage if you have an enthusiastic friend, and surely you have already seen some finished products in decoupage on tiles.

The diversity compared to decoupage on wood, in addition to any difference in the products for its treatment, is that in the tiles it is possible to add details in three dimensions, which would not be possible to do in a closet or in a box.

To use this style of work, the representation of the facades of the buildings is ideal. Very interesting is the representation of mountain houses or other small old houses, with rustic details. To begin, it is recommended not to use or choose a tile that is too large, this will be the most suitable but for a later time, when you have more experience.

Then get the rice paper doors and windows with a representation of the style that you prefer, you can find thousands of options more easily in stores.

First of all, it cleans the tile very well, carefully dusting it in order to optimize the preparation of the base primer. Next, apply the acrylic primer or gesso and gently place the item on the rice paper. Now place the decoupage glue on the entire tile and the sponge method plays with the environment (air and vegetation is possible).

Now comes the most curious and fun thing: some miniature objects that can be bricks, small tiles, are glued with hot glue, with a vase of flowers, a pet farm, etc. Here, then, all your imagination must be present and where you can do a more than special and beautiful job, trying to play in the miniature work.

The last step is to paint the work, in order to ensure everything to give a better visual impact. You can place both a product and an ornament or attach it to the wall by two holes at the top and let it hang.

If the first time you carry out this work you do not achieve the desired result, or it does not seem like a big deal, do not despair, it is just a matter of practice. For now I can only advise not to use colors that are very strong, but the use of pastel colors, both for the facade and for the environment, ensure success in the decor, being more subtle and delicate.
